A New Dining Room in a Weekend

Easy dining room “redesign” was completed in just a weekend

One of my latest projects I wanted to share with you all. This was an easy update that the homeowners were able to accomplish in a weekend and under $1,000. This lovely couple wanted something quick and easy with WOW factor results. Some of the areas we focused on were brightening the space while adding beautiful contrast and eye-catching focal points.

One of the ways this was accomplished was with the dining room chairs. The homeowner loved the traditionally elegant look of her chairs as well as the sturdiness and quality build of this complete dining room set. Replacing it was not an option. Therefore, the chairs were changed from the cream color that you see in the before picture to a dramatic black. This was a successful DIY and saved the homeowners money. Instead of purchasing eight new chairs, they painted all the chairs black, using fabric paint. The results are stunning!

The next change in this space was the wall color. The walls went from a darker beige to light cream and the black accent along the lower portion replaced the burgundy paint. The new wall colors created more contrast and brighter space.

The homeowners wanted to keep their mirror mounted on the wall but desired a more finished look for the mirror. Adding a frame with decorative corners created the finished look that complimented this traditional elegant dining room. Placing mirrors in a room reflects light and makes a space spear brighter and larger. The mirror is a great accent piece in this room.

Pre-assembled picture frame molding was added along the bottom portion of the wall. The molding was painted in the same color as the bottom portion of the wall but in a different sheen. This gives dimension and creates more visual interest within the space.

Curtains can make or break a space. Curtains deserve special attention. You may not realize it but window treatments do complete a space. In this dining room it was important to keep a traditional feel, but modern. We didn't want to go too heavy as this would not work with the overall feel of the space. Opting for medium-weight black curtains placed higher on the window and just sweeping the floor, created a beautiful dramatic backdrop.

When you are decorating a room, it is important to think about the colors, lighting and textures of the items that you place in that space. The homeowner's chandelier and table décor brings everything together by providing a more cohesive look. This dining room has the right amount of light, color, and textures creating the perfect ambiance, a welcoming and elegant environment for their guests.

This dining room was designed with NVD “VIP” Signature Service and color consult. The homeowners were able to see the potential of their dining room before making any changes. This was combined with my color consult service which showed them the best options for selecting a paint color that would give the desired results.
