The Glam Rental
When transitional meets glam, you create a beauty like this. This is actually a simple design I created for apartment living. Could also work in any rental with small living space. Most apartments limit what you can and cant do with in the home. Painting, hanging pictues changing the floors, etc., For many these are not viable options. Of course there are exceptions to the rules. There are also rental properties that allow for painting as long as you repaint it back to the original color. That is an option but it is either time consuming or costly. And honestly you may not want to do all of that, so here’s some other options.
White walls aren’t horible or boring, whatever shade of white your working with can still look beautiful. Even gray, griege, taupe, etc., any neutral makes a good backdrop. So we will breakdown why this works for rental homes.
The white walls is a a perfect canvas. Everything goes with white, but not everything goes with anything. Hopefully that last statement didn’t confuse you. What I mean by everything does not go with anything is that you still need a design plan, a color palette. Understanding how you want your space to look and feel. This room is glam transitional with an elegant vibe. It will not really work with anytype of farmhouse casual style. You want your space to have harmony and balance. You can't just put everything you like in the space and expect to maintain your design style.
Color palette grey, blue and gold. A good rule to follow is the 60-30-10 rule. It's a classic decor rule that helps create a color palette for a space. It states that 60% of the room should be a dominant color, 30% should be the secondary color or texture and the last 10% should be an accent. Using this space as an example we have the sofa drapes and some accessories in a gray or silver hue. Then the next major color is blue. Accent pillows, lamp shades and Ottomans. Lastly is gold. I'm the accessories, such as legs of coffee table, mirror frame, lamp base and floor vase. this is a good system to help you coordinate your colors and ensure they are not competing with each other. There are also small about 5% pops of colors in the flowers.
Floors are typically changed out by proprty oweners. If you don't like your floors an area rug can work wonders. This may be a splurge area. You will want to get a rug large enough to anchor your sofa/sectional and any additional chairs or seating with in the space. If the rug is to small, the space may look awkward or worse yet you may be even more unhappy with your living room. This can be frustrating. I'm this design I went with a cream rug, but you could put for a subtle pattern rug like one of these
Wallart. Because painting may not be a realistic option, select wall art or mirrors that will compliment your space and style. The chanel pictures work beautifully and continue the glam feel.
As well as the floor mirror. It also eliminates having a bare wall. Another option is peel and stick walllpaper. I do advice to test an area first before purchasing and diving into a full on project. Peel and stick will not adhere to some textured walls
Bring in addtional pops of colors if you want a little more of a bold staement with some vibrant flowers. You can opt for weekly fresh flowers are create your own flower arrangement with faux flowers from places like Hobby Lobby
